The Running Event (TRE) is North America's leading trade show and conference for the run specialty industry, bringing together independent running retailers, brands, race organizers, and industry leaders. Organized by Diversified Communications, TRE marks its 20th anniversary in 2026, running December 1-3 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas, under the theme "Celebrating Run Specialty Now and Tomorrow."
The exhibit hall is the core of the event, with more than 270 brands booked as of late May 2026. A multi-day education program covers the forces shaping run specialty retail, including AI in store operations and the rapid growth of races and run clubs, with further sessions at the Training Camp Theater. Switchback at TRE extends the show to outdoor specialty retailers.
TRE also hosts the Industry Awards Dinner and the Best Running Stores recognition, plus community events such as the River Walk Run, the Indie 5K, an opening party, and a show-floor happy hour. For retailers it is a place to preview product and learn from peers; for brands it offers direct access to the specialty running channel.
