CPHI Worldwide 2026 Recap: Milan's Awards, New Zones and the Move to Frankfurt 2027
CPHI Worldwide 2026 closed in Milan on October 8 without a published attendance total, so the headline is still to come. What is on the record: 15 Pharma Awards winners, capacity and partnership announcements from exhibitors, and a 2027 edition that moves to Frankfurt in November with seven new zones.

October 6-8, 2026 | Fiera Milano, Rho (Milan), Italy | Organizer pre-show figures: 62,000+ attendees and 2,900+ exhibiting companies | Final 2026 totals not yet published by CPHI (2025 Frankfurt post-show report: 59,000+ attendees, 2,900+ exhibitors) | 15 CPHI Pharma Awards presented on October 6 | First CPHI Sustainability Summit, October 6-7, which CPHI says passed its 300-participant target | Next: CPHI Frankfurt, November 9-11, 2027, Messe Frankfurt
CPHI Worldwide 2026, branded by its organizer Informa Markets as CPHI Milan 2026, closed at Fiera Milano on Thursday, October 8. Before the show, CPHI's first-time visitor page promoted 62,000+ attendees and 2,900+ exhibiting companies for the Milan edition. Those were pre-show figures. As of October 12, CPHI has not published a post-show attendance or exhibitor total for 2026.
That matters for anyone reading the coverage. The last confirmed baseline is the 2025 edition in Frankfurt, where CPHI's post-show report gave 59,000+ attendees and 2,900+ exhibitors, with attendees from 170 countries and exhibitors from 116. Until CPHI publishes its 2026 report, there is no basis to say Milan grew or shrank, and this recap does not.
With no Milan audience result yet, exhibitors can judge three things: what changed in the program, what the organizer and exhibitors announced, and what CPHI is selling for 2027. The show added four zones and a new two-day Sustainability Summit, the CPHI Pharma Awards named 15 winners, companies posted capacity and partnership news to CPHI's press page in the two weeks around the show, and the organizer has already switched its site to the next edition: CPHI Frankfurt in November 2027, with seven new zones.
If you are new to the event, our CPHI Worldwide 2026 guide explains the pass tiers, the zone-to-hall map and what exhibiting involves.
What CPHI Promised, and What We Can Confirm
CPHI's pre-show material for Milan set out the shape of the 2026 edition. The figures below are the organizer's own, published before the doors opened, set against the 2025 post-show report where a like-for-like figure exists.
Attendance. CPHI promoted 62,000+ attendees for Milan (some of its pages show 62k or 62,000). Frankfurt 2025 reported 59,000+ in its post-show report. Because one figure is a pre-show promotion and the other a post-show count, they are not comparable yet.
Exhibitors. CPHI's pre-show figure for Milan was 2,900+ exhibiting companies, the same rounded figure its 2025 post-show report gave for Frankfurt. CPHI's own pages are not consistent: the same first-time visitor page says 2,400+ exhibitors in its introduction and 2,900+ exhibiting companies in its figures panel. We use 2,900+ because it is the figure in that panel and on the main event pages before the show, but both are advertised numbers, not a final count, and the gap is one more reason to wait for the post-show report.
Conference. Before the show, CPHI's 2026 conference agenda listed 250+ speakers, organized in five content tracks. That was the published plan, not a post-show count. In 2025, the post-show report counted 260 speakers, 150+ content sessions and 8,600+ content attendees. A 2026 equivalent has not been published.
Where the audience came from in 2025. In Frankfurt, Europe made up 56% of attendees, Asia 29%, the Americas 11% and Africa 4%. The top five attendee countries were Germany, India, the United Kingdom, the United States and Italy. That is the most recent published audience profile, and it was measured in a German host year. Milan's mix may differ, and CPHI has not said.
The New Zones and the First Sustainability Summit
Milan 2026 was the first CPHI edition with four new zones: AI & Tech, Cold Chain & Logistics, Contamination Control and Labelling, all of which appear as zone filters on CPHI's 2026 exhibitor list. They sat alongside the established zones for APIs, excipients and fine chemicals, contract services, CROs, bioproduction, finished dosage, machinery and equipment, natural extracts, integrated pharma, and packaging and drug delivery.
The other addition was the inaugural CPHI Sustainability Summit, held alongside the show on October 6-7 in a separate program from the main conference. CPHI billed it before the show as 20+ roundtables, interactive discussions and peer-to-peer working groups, with access through a dedicated Summit pass or an add-on to a show pass. After the show, CPHI's Summit page said it had set out to bring together 300 pharmaceutical professionals and surpassed that number. It has not published an exact total. The same page lists the Summit for CPHI Frankfurt 2027, with dates still to be announced.
For the wider program, the best available guide is pre-show coverage. European Pharmaceutical Review's preview, a secondary source, flagged sustainability, data-led development, advanced therapies, AI in clinical trials, excipient technology and the changing expectations placed on CDMOs.
The CPHI Pharma Awards
The CPHI Pharma Awards winners were revealed on October 6 at the CPHI Celebration in Milan, according to the awards release as reported by PMLiVE. There were 15 categories:

Three of the 15 categories were for sustainability or partnership work, and the winners ranged from global groups such as AstraZeneca and Evonik to start-ups and a government agency.
Announcements Around the Show
CPHI's press and media page carried a set of company announcements dated in the two weeks around the show. These are the companies' own statements, hosted on the organizer's site. The releases do not say whether they were announced on the show floor, so read them as sector news timed to CPHI, not as deals done at the show. None of the figures below has been independently verified.
- Ofichem agreed to acquire Kinentia Biosciences (October 5). The Dutch CDMO is buying the drug-substance CDMO based in Rensselaer, New York, which gives it an operational US presence. Completion is subject to CFIUS approval and other customary closing conditions, and no price was disclosed.
- A Digital CMC Consortium launched (October 6). Founding leaders from Novartis, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Takeda, Rockwell Automation, Pioneering Medicines, Stellix, ZS Associates and QbDVision formed a not-for-profit group to digitalize chemistry, manufacturing and controls data, starting with tech transfer between sponsors and CDMOs.
- Ensera launched an alliance network (September 30) with injector platform providers SHL Medical, Stevanato Group and Ypsomed and fill-finish specialists Argonaut Manufacturing Services and American Injectables, aimed at the handovers in bringing drug-device combination products to market.
- Axplora announced "Axotecan" (September 29), a project to create an independent European source of exatecan, a starting material for a growing class of ADC payloads. It targets validation batches before the end of 2026 and initial GMP supply in late 2027, subject to technical, quality and regulatory milestones.
- 53Biologics announced a >€2 million expansion (September 25) at its cGMP facility in Boecillo, Spain, adding freeze-drying capacity it expects to be fully operational for cGMP manufacturing by early 2027.
- Onyx Scientific is investing more than £1.5 million to add four GMP suites at its Sunderland, UK, site, taking it from six to ten, with the new capacity expected online in Q1 2027.
For exhibitors, the practical point is that CPHI's press page is one channel companies used to publish news timed to the show. If you plan an announcement for 2027, ask the organizer how press-page submissions work and what the deadline is.
What It Means for Exhibitors
Wait for the final figures before you cite them. If you report CPHI's audience to a board or a budget holder, use the 2025 post-show report (59,000+ attendees, 2,900+ exhibitors) until CPHI publishes its 2026 report. The 62,000+ figure was a pre-show promotion.
The 2027 show moves to November. CPHI Frankfurt runs November 9-11, 2027, later in the year than the last two editions: Milan on October 6-8, 2026, and Frankfurt on October 28-30, 2025, per Informa Markets' 2025 announcement. Check the new date against your budget year, shipping and staff travel, and any other November shows you attend.
Check the new zones on the live floorplan. Four zones were new in Milan, and CPHI lists seven new zones for Frankfurt 2027. If your offer fits AI and tech, cold chain, contamination control, labelling, cosmeceuticals, lab and analytical equipment or nutraceuticals, check current availability on CPHI's interactive floorplan, linked from its event site, and ask the sales team how many stands those zones held in 2026 and which hall they will be in for Frankfurt.
The awards are not only for products. The 2026 categories included sustainability, partnership, start-up and individual awards alongside product and technology categories. If you are considering an entry for 2027, read the entry guide for the categories and criteria when CPHI publishes it.
Know the hall and package before you commit. CPHI's event site says the Frankfurt floorplan is open now and that prices are lowest early. Before you sign, get the assigned hall, the neighboring zones, the stand package (Shell Stand, MSD or Basic Package), the quoted rate and what it includes, and ask how the layout differs from Frankfurt 2025.
