H2 2026 Trade Shows: What to Watch — and What Actually Matters

The 18 events — across 7 market forces — that shape manufacturing, energy, enterprise tech, and healthcare through the back half of 2026.

The first half of 2026 was the keynote half — AI platform wars, developer conferences, the agentic-AI pitch. The second half is the procurement half. Fall is when the budget that got talked about in June actually gets spent, on a show floor, in front of a buyer who's done experimenting.

Hundreds of trade shows run between July and December. But for anyone making real budget calls, roughly eighteen of them move an industry storyline forward. The largest machine-tool show in the Western Hemisphere. The single biggest energy event on earth. The world's largest food show. Radiology AI's report card in Chicago, the week after Thanksgiving.

This is a market map, not a calendar dump. We pulled the eighteen events that actually drive the back half of 2026, grouped them into the seven forces you should be watching, and put the full dated reference table at the end so you can scan it once the analysis has told you where your team belongs.

If you're deciding which shows to attend, exhibit at, or watch from a distance — start here.

In H2 2026, the show floor isn't where you discover the market. It's where you close it.

How to read this: 7 forces shaping the back half of 2026

Before the show-by-show breakdown, the spine. These are the seven storylines that link the events into one map of where industry is heading into 2027:

  1. Manufacturing's automation supercycle — IMTS, PACK EXPO and Electronica turn the industrial-AI thesis from a Hannover keynote into purchase orders. The question on every floor: does it pay back inside twelve months?
  • The energy build-out gets its budget — ADIPEC and RE+ put oil-and-gas capital and the renewables build-out in the same quarter. The energy transition stops being a panel topic and starts being a procurement line.
  • Enterprise tech leaves Silicon Valley — IFA Berlin, Web Summit Lisbon, CIIE Shanghai, and a December-anchored GITEX Dubai are where enterprise tech is actually sold in H2. The buyers, and the capital, are not in California.
  • The automotive aftermarket's own supercycle — Automechanika Frankfurt, then SEMA and AAPEX sharing a single Las Vegas week. While everyone watches EV launches, the parts-and-service economy quietly writes the bigger checks.
  • Healthcare's deployment year — CPHI, Medica, and RSNA move medical AI and pharma manufacturing from "promising pilot" to "in the clinical pipeline." RSNA in particular is radiology AI's annual reckoning.
  • The food system under pressure — SIAL Paris, the largest food show of the year, becomes the single global market moment in a year when its sister fair sits out the calendar.
  • Defense stays in its up-cycle — Farnborough in July and AUSA in October keep defense procurement hot, bridging toward DSEI 2027. The civilian spillover — drones, autonomy, edge AI — arrives within 18 months.
  • Now the events themselves.

    The map in one table

If you read nothing else, read this. Each force has an anchor show — the one event that, on its own, tells you where the storyline is heading. The full dated calendar of all eighteen events sits at the end of the article.

Now the forces themselves — and the eighteen events inside them.

    Force 1 — Manufacturing's automation supercycle

IMTS — Sep 14–19, Chicago. PACK EXPO International — Oct 18–21, Chicago. Electronica — Nov 10–13, Munich.

If you read one force on this list, read this one. Three of the largest industrial shows on earth land inside ten weeks, and they all answer the same question: the industrial-AI story that got framed at Hannover Messe and stress-tested at Automate — does it now close?

    • IMTS is the largest manufacturing technology show in the Western Hemisphere — roughly 90,000 visitors, 2,000+ exhibitors, McCormick Place floor to ceiling. This is where North American manufacturers commit capex on machine tools, automation cells, and the digital layer on top. Watch how vendors price AI-enabled machinery: the ones winning orders quote payback in months, not features.
    • PACK EXPO International is where packaging and processing automation get bought, increasingly with vision-AI inspection and robotics as standard line items rather than upgrades.
    • Electronica (80,000+ visitors in Munich, the biennial leader for electronic components) closes the run with the chip-and-component supply chain that underpins every smart factory — the layer the whole automation story is literally built on.

The pattern to track across all three: AI is no longer a separate booth. It's embedded in the machine, and judged on ROI like any other capital purchase. That's the shift our Industrial AI Booths: What Changed Between 2024 and 2026 piece called early — H2 is where it becomes the default. (Deployment context: Industrial AI in Manufacturing.)

Force 2 — The energy build-out gets its budget

    ADIPEC — Nov 2–5, Abu Dhabi. RE+ — Nov 16–19, Las Vegas.

ADIPEC is the single highest-stakes event on this list — roughly 239,000 attendees and the biggest concentration of energy capital anywhere in the world. What used to be a pure oil-and-gas show is now where hydrocarbon money, decarbonization tech, and AI-for-energy all bid for the same budget. The keynote language here is a leading indicator for where global energy capex flows in 2027.

On the other side of the ledger, RE+ — the largest clean-energy show in North America, now at its expanded Las Vegas home — is where the renewables build-out gets procured: solar, storage, grid interconnection, with WindEnergy Hamburg in late September doing the same job for the global offshore wind supply chain. The tension between Force 2's two halves — fossil capital at ADIPEC, the build-out at RE+ and Hamburg — is the energy story of 2026.

If you sell into energy, infrastructure, or industrial power, you don't get to pick one side anymore. The buyers increasingly sit on both.

Force 3 — Enterprise tech leaves Silicon Valley

IFA Berlin — Sep 4–8, Berlin. Web Summit — Nov 9–12, Lisbon. CIIE — Nov 5–10, Shanghai. GITEX Global — Dec 7–11, Dubai.

The H1 tech story was American keynotes. The H2 story is that enterprise tech is bought everywhere except the valley that demos it.

    • IFA Berlin (245,000 attendees) reframes consumer electronics as an AI-in-the-home and channel story, and opens Europe's autumn tech season.
    • Web Summit Lisbon is Europe's flagship for startup-meets-enterprise and the venture capital that connects them.
    • CIIE Shanghai (400,000 attendees) is China's import showcase and a read on how multinationals are positioning inside the world's second-largest market.
    • GITEX Global (200,000+ attendees, 6,800 exhibitors) now closes the year in December at its new Expo City Dubai home — and is one of the most important enterprise-tech shows anywhere by sheer deal density, with Gulf sovereign-fund capital, government digitization budgets, and AI infrastructure spend concentrated in one week.

The throughline: if your AI or enterprise-software pitch only works in front of a U.S. buyer, you're addressing a shrinking share of 2026's actual spend. Watch which Western vendors show up in Shanghai and Dubai in force — that's the tell on who's serious about global revenue.

Force 4 — The automotive aftermarket's own supercycle

Automechanika Frankfurt — Sep 8–12, Frankfurt. SEMA + AAPEX — Nov 3–6, Las Vegas.

While the headlines chase EV launches and OEM drama, the aftermarket — parts, service, repair, accessories — quietly runs one of the most resilient B2B economies in the world. H2 is its season.

    • Automechanika Frankfurt is the global aftermarket anchor: around 100,000 attendees, 4,500 exhibitors, the entire repair-and-parts value chain in one place. EV servicing, ADAS calibration, and connected-car diagnostics are the fastest-growing aisles.
    • SEMA and AAPEX take over Las Vegas in the same first week of November — SEMA (Nov 3–6) for specialty equipment and the enthusiast/performance economy (~160K), AAPEX (Nov 3–5) for the professional parts-and-service channel (~48K). Together they make Vegas the center of the global aftermarket for one week.

For suppliers, the strategic read is the EV transition's second-order effect: fewer oil changes, but far more software, sensor, and high-voltage service revenue. The shows that show you who's adapting are these.

    Force 5 — Healthcare's deployment year

    CPHI Worldwide — Oct 6–8, Milan. Medica — Nov 16–19, Düsseldorf. RSNA — Nov 29–Dec 3, Chicago.

Healthcare's "AI is interesting" phase is over. H2 2026 is where it gets graded.

    • CPHI Worldwide (in Milan this year, 60,000+ professionals) is the global pharma supply-chain and ingredients show — where drug manufacturing, CDMO partnerships, and (increasingly) AI-assisted formulation get transacted.
    • Medica (81,000 attendees, 5,000 exhibitors) is the largest medical trade fair in the world — the full sweep of medical devices, diagnostics, and health IT.
    • RSNA, the week after U.S. Thanksgiving, is radiology AI's annual report card. More FDA-cleared imaging-AI tools launch and get scrutinized here than anywhere else. Watch the gap between "cleared" and "actually reimbursed and deployed" — that gap is the real story of medical AI in 2026.

If you sell into health systems, the procurement signal isn't the demo — it's whether a named hospital network will say, on the record, that they've deployed and are paying for it.

Force 6 — The food system under pressure

SIAL Paris — Oct 17–21, Paris.

The world's two largest food fairs — SIAL Paris and Cologne's Anuga — alternate years, and 2026 belongs to SIAL (Anuga's next edition is 2027). That makes SIAL Paris (310,000 attendees, 7,000 exhibitors) the single global food market this year — for anyone in food manufacturing, retail buying, or foodservice supply, the one floor that has the whole industry on it.

    The storylines to track:

    • Protein strategy — alternative protein has cooled from its hype peak; watch what survives on real margin versus what quietly exits.
    • Supply-chain resilience — sourcing diversification and nearshoring after several years of disruption.
    • Private-label momentum — retailers pushing own-brand as a margin lever, and the manufacturers positioning to supply it.

The bigger thing to watch: whether retailers keep treating private label as a structural margin strategy even as food inflation stabilizes. If they do, the winners on the SIAL floor won't be the loudest brands — they'll be the contract manufacturers who can deliver own-label quality at volume. That shift quietly redraws who has pricing power in the food supply chain, and a single-giant year like 2026 is where you'll see it most clearly.

If your buyer is a grocery chain, a foodservice distributor, or a CPG procurement team, SIAL Paris has them in the room. (For how to decide whether a 7,000-exhibitor show is worth the spend, run the Trade Show ROI framework first.)

Force 7 — Defense stays in its up-cycle

Farnborough Airshow — Jul 20–24, UK. AUSA Annual Meeting — Oct 12–14, Washington, D.C.

The defense procurement cycle that reset in H1 stays hot through the back half. Farnborough opens the season — civil and military aerospace, with the autonomy and uncrewed-systems storyline now dominant (we covered exhibitor strategy in the Farnborough Airshow 2026 Exhibitor's Guide). AUSA in October is the U.S. Army's flagship — the leading read on American land-systems procurement priorities heading into 2027.

Three storylines to track across both:

    • Autonomous systems crossing the threshold — uncrewed air, ground, and maritime platforms are moving from trials to fielded programs of record. Watch which primes talk about deployed units and contract awards rather than demonstrators.
    • Software-defined defense — the value is shifting from the airframe or the vehicle to the software stack that updates it. Procurement language is starting to mirror enterprise SaaS — open architectures, continuous updates, and vendor lock-in fights — and that reframes who wins these contracts.
    • Dual-use technology — the line between defense and commercial tech keeps blurring; edge AI, satellite ISR, and counter-drone systems all have civilian markets, which is exactly why the civilian spillover from these shows reaches commercial industries within roughly 18 months.

If you're tracking the long arc, this force bridges into next year's DSEI 2027 cycle.

Niche but loud (attend only if it's your lane)

A few H2 shows generate enormous noise but matter only to specific teams:

    • Gamescom (Aug, Cologne, ~370K) and Tokyo Game Show (Sep) — essential if you're in gaming, IP, or interactive entertainment; skippable otherwise, regardless of the attendance figures.
    • SEMICON West (Jul, San Francisco) — critical if you touch chips or advanced electronics manufacturing; the AI-hardware supply chain runs through here.
    • MIPCOM (Oct, Cannes) — the global TV/content market; relevant to media, not to most B2B.

Big crowds aren't the same as your buyer in the room. Don't let an attendance number talk you onto a plane.

    Where to spend your time

If you can only pick a few, start here:

This isn't "go to all of these." It's "if your company plays in lane X, this is the one H2 show you can't afford to miss."

    FAQ

Which H2 2026 trade show is the biggest? By raw attendance, CIIE in Shanghai (~400,000) and IFA Berlin (~245,000) top the list. But "biggest" rarely means "best for you" — IMTS or Medica will deliver far more value if your buyer is a manufacturer or a hospital. Pick on buyer density, not crowd size.

What's the single most strategically important event in H2 2026? For energy, ADIPEC — its keynotes set the tone for global energy capex. For manufacturing, IMTS. For enterprise tech, GITEX. There's no universal answer; the right one is the show where the most of your buyers are concentrated.

When should exhibitors book stand space for fall shows? For the marquee shows (IMTS, GITEX, Medica, Electronica), prime stand space sells out 6–12 months ahead — meaning the best fall positions were largely locked by spring. If you're planning now, target the spring 2027 editions and the second-tier fall shows where space is still available. Use the /shows directory to check status per event.

How do I decide between two shows in the same week? November is brutal for clashes — SEMA, AAPEX, ADIPEC, CIIE, Web Summit, Electronica, RE+ and Medica all fall inside it, several overlapping to the day. Don't split a team across two. Run the ROI framework, pick the one with higher qualified-buyer density for your offer, and commit your budget there.

I can only attend one show all autumn — what should it be? For most B2B industrial teams: IMTS (September) or, if you're later-cycle, ADIPEC (November). Both combine scale with genuine buyer intent. For tech teams selling globally, GITEX. For healthcare, Medica.

    Plan smarter for H2 2026

The eighteen events above are where the back half of 2026 — and the opening of 2027 — actually takes shape. If you're making budget decisions, do these three things:

    1. Run the budget framework. Before committing to any of these, work through Trade Show ROI: How to Measure What Actually Matters. It'll tell you which of the eighteen are worth your spend.
    2. Use the TradeShowBuzz /shows directory to go deeper on any event here — exhibitor lists, agendas, venue logistics, and dates.
    3. Remember what the shows now are. As we argued in Trade Shows Are Becoming Procurement Environments Again, the fall floor isn't a discovery channel — it's where deals close. Plan like a buyer's in the room, because they are.

The shows that shape your year are rarely the loudest. They're the ones where your buyer is standing on the floor with budget authority — and where the storyline you're already tracking moves forward by a measurable step. That's the filter for H2 2026.

By autumn, the market already knows what's possible. The show floor is where it decides what gets funded.
